Google Cloud Is Doing Everything To Attract Businesses

Google Cloud announces new services aimed at convincing companies to adopt its platform. A partnership with IBM around Power Systems has just been announced, as well as services dedicated to companies in the retail sector…

To win a place in the Cloud Computing market, between its two rivals Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure, Google must be strategic. The Mountain View firm has chosen to focus on a corporate clientele, attracting them with innovative features.

Until now, corporate workloads were mainly executed on IBM Power Systems architecture servers and their Power processors. These systems are notably used for workloads based on Oracle and SAP applications and databases. However, IBM was the only vendor to offer Cloud-based Power systems.

In order to help companies more easily migrate their workloads to the cloud, and therefore to attract them to its platform, Google announces a partnership with IBM. The objective of this alliance is to launch IBM Power Systems on Google Cloud.

Rather than having to renovate all of their platforms to move to the Cloud, organizations will be able to take advantage of the flexibility and scalability of the Cloud with their existing infrastructure.

This partnership with IBM is part of a strategic continuity for Google Cloud, whose year 2019 was marked by the launch of the Anthos tool allowing the management of applications on the Cloud and on-site. The firm seeks above all to remove the obstacles that dissuade companies from opting for its cloud. The Power Systems on Google Cloud offer is integrated into Google Cloud tools, but the price is not communicated publicly.

In parallel, still in a logic of conquering companies, Google took advantage of the NRF 2020 conference to announce new Cloud services dedicated to the retail sector. Remember that many companies in this sector are competitors of Amazon and therefore seek an alternative cloud provider. Among its customers, Google notably includes Carrefour, Lowe’s or Kohls.

Among the services announced at NRF 2020, there are notably new vertical editions specifically dedicated to the retail of existing services. This is the case with the Google Cloud API Management for Retail, Google Cloud Anthos for Retail or even Google Cloud Search for Retail which will improve the search engine for products on merchant applications.

In addition, Google will make certain tools available to more customers. This is the case for the Retail Acceleration Program and the Customer Reliability Engineering service aimed at helping resellers to better plan and manages their peak days.

From new services were also announced. We can cite Google Cloud 1: 1 Engagement for Retail, designed to help companies develop data-driven solutions efficiently and at low cost. A purchasing optimization and demand forecasting service will also allow retailers to better plan their logistics operations.

Over the next few months, we can expect Google to apply the same strategy to other industries.
